Ebony
Every house has a steretype. Hufflepuffs are loyal and caring. Griffindors are daring and brave. Ravenclaws are witty and intelligant. And Slytherins. Slytherins are evil and creepy. Of course everybody loves their stereotypes. Werewolves for example, they're all evil twisted nutters arent they? Of course.
Take books for example. Books are for reading, more often studying from in school. And how about those who study? They themselves have a great many labels. Geeks, Freaks and Booky types to name a few. Of course the popular one in muggle schools. Emo. And so it is to the grounds that a young "Emo Geek" went to find a peaceful place to study.
The sweeping green lawns swooped down towards the edges of the woods. The lake sparkled gently off to one side and the little hut had a gnetle spiral of smoke rising up from it. A thestral swooped out over the edge of the school grounds completed and elegant figure eight and then vanished, diving back down into the woods again. And at the edge of the lake on the forest side lay a girl surrounded by books, her legs curled up behind her as she read.
Ebony had deserted her normal haunts desperatly seeking peace and solitude in which to study, lucky she might be in Hufflepuff that she was expected to study it was still difficult. And so she had deserted the common room and headed out into the warm sun. Figures could be seen up at the castle int eh distance but she ignored them, reading and humming quietly she twirled a strand of hair around a finger. It was a beautiful day.

The gentle three beat fell across the line of the forrest as the unusual sight of a bay equine sped the line of which was alright to be there to forbiddon. His hip stretched the black joker card, which on the horse animal was just black fur yet on the boy was a hidden tatoo that had just been found. His face, usually as the animal looking free and calm was furiously staring stark ahead ears pinned to his skull. The sharp side-of-head eyes looked carlessy toward a figure he knew well and a small smile seemed to somehow reflect upon the animal of which to many people seemed to have no actual sense of emotion from this animal. About one stride away from Ebony his body flung itself out of equine form to the usual human form of a rather attractive sixteen-year-old boy. His blond hair ruffled in the breeze of being thrown forward as he chucked himself carelessly onto the ground. "Bloody howlers..."
His words were mumbled solemly out of the corner of his mouth with a smirk as he dug down the side of his body and gently stretched his trousers down revealing a part of the forbiddon tatoo he had aquired over the holidays. Teal eyes stretched over to his friend as he nudged her lightly and smiled. Adam Alastor Weasley! How could you dare get that tatoo, when you get home I and personally removing it and grounding you for the whole holidays. See you in easter - Hermione. He remembered the words well and so took it upon himself to lay as many charms of shields he could on it resulting in his hip being partially sore from one spell which seemed to want to eat his hip bone. Chuckling to himself slowley he looked out over the lake and then back to Ebony. "How ya been Ebz? Remember to take your medication?" Raising his eyebrows playfully he turned and hugged her, he'd missed his friends dearly althought here was somethign special between these two that made him only want to meet her on her own, not in the busy hall.

e b o n y Inter house unity had always been encouraged if not practised. It is rare for friendships to survive acorss houses let alone across years. Genuine friendsships at least. But occasionally they do happen, and the purveyors of them are very special. Often lonely? Slytherines have never been known to have inter house relations though... At least not openly.
Ebony shifted position to smile up at the aproaching 6th year. Her eyes couldn't help but be drawn tot he little tatoo on his hip and she looked quickly away again. She did not like the idea of needles and ink going inot the skin. Almost subconciously she put her hand to her own hip where she knew all too well that two perfect scars lay there. She half shifted it down so that the top most one was visible then quickly moved her hand. No need to make it into a big thing.
Reaching up she returned the hug, laughing Oh poor you, i'm sure she won't kill you really, before adding as an after thought, at least not too much. she laughed again, the sarcasm in her voice very light and friendly so that he would know she was just joking. Thats the advantage of muggle parents you see. No howlers she grinned at him. Feeling suddenly happy. She shifted ehr weight and propped herself up a ltitle more to mark the place i nthe book and return it to her bag. She let his second question hang int he air, trying to decide whether or not to keep him in suspense. Finally she deicided on teh joking approach. Well, she began slowly as though skirting around the subject You know how funny that stuff tastes? Well... she turned and pretended to ppunce at him, fingers arched like claws before vcollapsing oto her back giggling quietly. Brealhing deeply and sitting back up a little more she took a more seriouse tone. Yes i've taken it. Im not that stupid now am I? It was a rhetorical question.
Brushing a strang of auburn hair from her face she studied the boy, again barely noticing she was doing it. A habit of a life time. Adam weasly, sixteen with his slightly messy blone hair and bright, inquisitive teal eyes. How luck she felt to have him as a friend, a handsome and noble Griffindor. And her, a lowly hufflepuff with ginger hair and brown eyes. About as normal as could be. What an odd pair to be by the side of the lake... she thought vaugly with a slight smile on her lips.

Adams eyes opened lightly but they turned back to normal just as quick as they changed. Leaning back against a tree he nodded lightly. "My dad won't mind actually they'll probably have this big argument. I better be able to keep it otherwise I'll bloody murder them both, I went through so much to get all that muggle money and I don't know why muggles put themselves through pain..." He brushed his arm lightly and looked back over the way he'd come. He really needed to see the long blond hair, despritly and urgently. There were rumors that students had been taken out because there was no need for them to come to school no more as a decree was passed saying that it was now legal to teach all subjects in a home environment. He'd simply refused not to come back.
Turning back to Ebony as she began to talk he reluctantly looked to her face and then diverted his eyes back over the way he'd hoped he'd see the blond yet was left with no choice than the intrest of his feet. yet when she pretended to pounce he simply sat there and smiled with a large grin. "You can't fool me anymore, just wait for your OWLs you'll get top marks on the werewolf bit." Sighing he pushed his back down the tree, lifting his t-shirt as he went down yet it bounced back to about 3 inches after his trousers began, and lay on his back. Chewing his lip lightly he turned on his side and then sat back up, nervous behavior. "You think Adeline is back in Hogwarts?" He tried to keep the convisation casual bu the concern in the back of his throat automatically gave it away and he looked to Ebony's eyes knowing that she would understand why he was so concerned without a doubt.

Heaving a quiet sigh Ebony sat herself properly upright. Glancing back over the way that Adam had been looking. Im sure I will... she said distractedly, his nervouse mood seemed infecsiouse nas she started to grow a little tense too. Brishing her hair out of her face again she rearranged herself so that she was sat crosslegged on the floor and pulled the band out of her hair.
Retreiving a brush from the bottom of her bag and a broken shard of mirror glasshse began to bush her hair methodically in long sweeping stirokes until all the knots were gone and she was able to start plaiting it. Quietly she folded strand over strand as she thought and began to speak. I don't knw for certain, I wasn't able to speak to anyone over the break. But i do hope she is, It wouldn't be the same otherwise. Is it true? What they're saying about students being kept home? and she coul not quite help her voice rising a little in fear at the end. For if her parents knew she might never get to return to Hogwarts.
Finishing her oalit she stood and went ove rto crouch next to the troubled looking boy. Reaching over she gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze. It'll be alright, she'll be back im sure. and she tried tso desperatly t o believe it that the words sounded real in her mouth. Giving his shoulder another squeeze she went and settled back down by her bag again, half wondering if she sould hust gie him a quick hug, after all, thats waht friends are for, right?
||sorry muse died midway through that, see you sundays||

He shrugged lightly but he couldn't keep it held any further, he knew that he must have looked guilty or lieing blatently to her face. Hugging his knees he placed his head on them and stared at the dark green grass and sighed heavily before mumbling his explination. "Casandra McGough isn't here, her mother was refusing to pay the new fee to get through to platform nine and three quaters, she took it up to the ministry, who after the diruptions of the new election for both Muggle and Magic minister were far behind what had been put in place, they thought it was stupid that education that was nessicarry needed to be payed for and so they abolished it yet Cassandra's mother wasn't entirley sure about Hogwarts anymore and so she went back and then they passed an educational decree, I've forgotton how many have been passed, that students may be educated at home... I suppose that means a lot of familiar faces have gone although I wasn't, I knew you wouldn't either." Half way trhough the long explination Adam had looked up his fresh face dazzled in the late sunlight, his mind in another place. He had to get in contact with someone later on, perhaps even sabatage the stupid Frae's bird and force it to hand the letters to Frae over to him. He needed new information, despratly.
Twisting back to reality he caught a few words of what Ebony had said and sighed whole-heartidly. He was just friends with Adeline beyond what everyone could see he blatenly loved her, although he was sure her own views where entirley different in fact they had drifted apart a dangerously large amount and then Ebony had come to his aid and of course, being close anyway, he'd been able to have an almost telepathic convisation to her, finishing eachothers sentences and all the things many best friends did. Yet still Adam lied to himself that he didn't have a best friend, it was a guy thing that he was sure would make sense to others just not the feminine mind. That was unless they were strangley masculine minded. Smiling carefully he simply nodded and dug into his pocket bringing out a saftey pin and playing with it through the thick black jeans.
He wished nothing than to just dive into the waters of the lake again, it had been a tradition that steadily died out yet somehow always made Adam want to do it more. He eventualy discided that it wasn't the time of year to do that and turned back to Ebony and frowned. "You know I don't even think I have a chance with her anyway, she'll probably go for someone who..." He chuckled lightly at his little outburst before rolling back on his back and looking up at the sky through the shade of the trees. His hand steadily fell through his fingers before he picked it up and silently cast a charm directly at the water causing it to fly up maybe a little too much as it ate up the bank and sprayed his face yet he still held a smug expression and laughed gently and himself.

e b o n y A gentle twitter of an unseen bird, high up in the forests tree's. She felt a sudden animal urge just to transform, to dash off into the tree's and to run until her heart was ready to pund out of her chest; til her lungs gace out and her legs collapsed beneath her. But she supressed it, until all that showed off this deisre was one small twitch of her let leg, it flicked backwards as though twitching into running motion and then stopped again. The feeling passed and she felt only exhaustion.
Somehow despite her now racing heart beat and distracted thoughts she managed to listen to what Adam had been saying, some of her worst fears were confirmed how many would return this year? How many would stay home? There had to be some advantages to having muggle parents that was for certain. Even if it was only insuring an absolute lack of interest in wizarding affairs that did not directly concern their daughter, they occassionally read her Prophet but only if there was somthign in it worth reading, as they judged this by the headline it was a rare occassion that they read it cover to cover or indeed understood fully or cared about what they were reading. And so they had been easily convinced to let her return, she smiled in memories.
Then somthing he said broke through to her and she smiled, it struck a chord with her, albeit a very girlish chord but that was unimportant. Some one who? she challenged with a laugh from her perch by her bag. I think youhave just as much chance as the rest of the school! she laughed, ducking from the spray he created, twisting her wand over in her fingers before adding jokingly. Im not too sure though, You might have almost as much of a chance as Frae... and then she held her wand at the ready should she need toc ast a sheild charm, just in case. Ebony smiled at her friend, life was good.[/center]
