The dreams came again, faster and more furiously than ever. Anna Blair woke shaking, crying, and a cold sweat breaking out on her skin. Wrapping her quilt around her, she left the dormitories as quickly and quietly as she could. Slipping down the stairs in her slippered feet, she made her way into the common room, where she curled up on a couch.
They called them night terrors, a haunting residue of witnessing her parents murder. She had experienced them ever since the Potter's had taken her in. Her family, for they were her family, knew about them and comforted her as best they could when she had one, but they couldn't do anything but that. Tonight, she longed for the comfort of a hug from any of them. But especially Adam.
Adam had been her best friend growing up with the Potters. The pair had always managed to get into tons of trouble, usually along with James. As they got older, Anna Blair experienced mixed feeling for Adam. he was her first crush, one that still persisted today. Sure, she dated here and there and flirted with a lot of people, but Adam kept a grip on her heart. In ways, she hated him for it.
She shut her eyes for a moment, drowsy as she was. AS soon as darkness came, the dreams flickered on the edge of her vision. The tears came again, renewing the shivering. How could she possibly survive another year like this if she couldn't even sleep? The light from the fire kept the worst of the darkness away, but she could feel it around her. God she hated it.

That look on his face, trying so hard not to snarl, it haunted his mind. Adam had bled so James wouldn't feel his heart break. He stared up at the ceiling, replaying the moment over and over again in his mind. That anger, where had it come from? Family was always the most important thing, it conqered all, even whatever he felt for the Malfoy girl. But oh! she was so beautiful, with her blonde hair. What? Hadn't he thought it looked like a mop just two days ago? There was something wrong with him, there had to be. Why else would he have shouted at his cousin who he loved even more than his own twin? They had been through so much, and despite teh age difference of nearly a year they were closer then they had any right to be. They'd gotten drunk for teh first time together, learned of Adam's twin Mada, learned to fly together. James had even gotten Adam to break his nose so he could hear what it sounded like before throwing his cousin in the lake for the hurt. He had stared at the surface for a few seconds, allowing what had just happened to sink into his inebriated mind and then paniced? What if he drowned? What if the merpeople ate him? Scared out of his wits he had jumped in after Adam, just to land on the Giant Squid. They had done all that together, and he'd still used blackmail to make him shut his mouth. There was no way James could sleep witht eh weight of that on his mind.
Silently he rose from his four-poster bed, making shushing motions at Belmar as the faithful crup roused himself from sleep to clatter down the stairs with his master. Quickly he stepped down the spiral staircase, the only noise the dull thwap as bare feet hit stoen and the click of crup claws. Finally he turned into the common room, rejoicing as the yet blazing fire sent warmth radiating out to soak into his bones. Belmar let out a yap and ran for the comfy couch where a figure lay wrapped in a quilt, tears running down her face. James immediatly recognized Anna. Her foster-sister, and almost as close to him as Adam. But why was she crying? Oh. Her night terrors. James moved toward her, his black hair flopping over into his hazel eyes. Already he had forgotten his own pain in the face of another's. "Anna?" With a small smile he remembered another night, almost exactly like this one. Except that time they'd been sneaking out under the impression they could walk alway to Adam's. He missed those nights. Over the years the pair had grown apart, but she was still family. James' face immediatly went back to its serious mode as he slowly walked over to the sixth year. Gently he sat on the edge of the couch, his scarlet silk pajamas flaring out slightly. "Anna are you okay?" Belmar trotted over and rested her paws against the edge of the couch, giving Anna's face a slight lick. A crup was the most loyal of beasts, and she knew this girl was important to her master. In case you didn't know, a crup looked almost exactly like a Jack Russel, but with a forked tail which was cropped painlessly at birth. For some reason they hated muggles.

Gees it was lonely down here. But at least she could hide from what she feared. She shivered and pulled the quilt tighter around her. Where was her family now? Muffled footsteps captured her attention. James. It seemed that sleep eluded him as well. He recognized the symptoms of her night terrors and came to her. Gently pushing the crup out of the way, Anna Blair tumbled off the couch and into her brother's arms. Burying her face in his chest, she let her fears pour out of her as she hid against him the way she had when they were kids.
"I saw...him again. I watched him...kill my mother and chase me. Make it go aaway James, please."
She pleaded with him. She hated how she sounded, reduced to a child-like state by the terrifying nightmares. Her entire body was shaking as the wizard's face leered at her from every angle. Her black hair was all over the place, on her, on James, in his facfe, but she didn't care. She needed the comfort of someone who loved her.
